Bonenkai (忘年会)

Have I mentioned that in Japan, they have Bonenkai at the end of the year?

A bōnenkai (忘年会, literally "forget the year gathering"?) is a Japanese drinking party that takes place at the end of the year, and is generally held among groups of co-workers or friends. The purpose of the party, as its name implies, is to forget the woes and troubles of the past year.

I have 3 this year. One with the EL Department, one with the whole school and one with the first grade teachers. I had to turn down the one with my visiting school and the ALTs one, cos there's just too many to attend and the dates sort of clashes. AND they are expensive drinking parties, at least 3000 yen (45-50 SGD), I think it's going to be more than that. I am the one who lugi, cos I can't drink!!! I will be paying for people to drink. I can only eat more to compensate. hah... and get fat after that.

All in all, drinking parties with the teachers are fun. They kinda of relax more after getting tipsy. I experienced that during my welcome party. My P and VPs were all very fun after they drank. Joking around with me. The teachers are usually serious looking at work, but once they drink... hmmm...

Tonight we will be going to Ume for wild boar meat. I heard the EL teachers always go back there for Bonenkai. Am looking forward to it!

*I'm so free in school that I can update my blog... hah... Photos will probably be uploaded tomorrow...
