There were a few special events in school, not that they are special school events, but events that are special to me.
三年生Presentations
 |
| They are serious abut the presentation! |
My two 三年生 classes had been working on their project on global issue for a few months. The last few lessons were used to help them rehearse for the presentation. During rehearsals, they were so soft and seem so unprepared for the presentation. My sensei and I was woried that they would not put up a show. However, they did worked hard and practised on their own. the presentations were good. Most of them improved. They were loud enough and they were more well-organised compared to the rehearsals. I was really happy that they did well.
二年生 Newsletters
 |
| This class is very good at drawing. |
The 二年生 finally completed their school trip newsletters. I had a good time reading and marking their work. Some newsletters were so nicely done. I was impressed by their work. I really wanted to display their work, so that everyone can read their newsletter. I went and ask one of the 2nd grade sensei and she managed to get me some boards. The newsletters were displayed during cultural week.
English Club CNY display
 |
| My one and only English Club student |
Along with the newsletter displays, I had to work with my 1 kid from English Club to put up something about CNY. We did some write ups on CNY and displayed them. After this, we will be doing scrapbook on her school life.
Music Class Presentation
 |
| Guest performance by Takahashi sensei and friend. |
I attend music lesson with my students every Thursday. 3-4 class was tasked to put up a performance on their last lesson. I was invited to join the hand-bell group. We never really got together to practise, cos sometimes I have lessons on Thursday, and the last rehearsal, 2 of the boys were absent. the 1st song was "Old Grandfather Clock" which was very simple. We were able to do that with no problem. The 2nd song was "Everything". We were really bad, kept stopping, it was so embarrassing. However, I really enjoyed the music classes.
Mochi Making with Class 3-1
 |
| Me hitting mochi, Kensho Sensei supervising... |
Last Friday, one of the teacher made mochi with his form class and he invited me along. Mochi-making is a tradition for Japanese on New Year's Day. It was something I wanted to experience, but I wasn't in Saiki during New Year. It was an eye-opener for me. I even had the chance to hit the mochi (They steam the glutinous rice and hit it while it's still hot to make the mochi). Fresh mochi tasted so delicious!!!
 |
| with red bean paste |
 |
| with shoyu |
 |
| With kinako powder |
It can be eaten with red bean paste wrapped inside; it can also be eaten with shoyu and kinako powder; it can also be eaten with sweet kinako powder. All 3 taste good to me! Very interesting indeed...

Eating with the students...
Their last day in school.
They will only be back in April for graduation. |
Tsuruoka's Sado Club Farewell Party
 |
| Omiyages on my table... |
In Tsuruoka, I planned for them to write about their school trip. They will continue to do that this week. Last week, when I arrived in school, I saw lots of omiyages on my table. Pleasant suprise for me eventhough I still don't know who placed them there.
 |
| Food prepared by the Sado senseis |
After school, I attended the farewell party for the 三年生 in sado club. The sado sensei prepared a light meal for us (but the presentation was so nice). The 二年生 brought along their omiyages from Tokyo. I contributed some snacks. It was a happy event, but it was also sad that the 3rd graders are leaving. They are really nice girls and I will definitely miss their presence in the sado room.
 |
| The Sado girls! |
It always feel wonderful to see your students standing in front of the class to present after all the hard work. Are they going to get any presents for trying their best? hehe..
ReplyDeleteDid u ruin their music performance? haha..I suspect it's u...
I want to eat mochi!! looks goooooooooood!
So many things to experience and learn in Japan, makes me feel like going there too..
They did a great job.. proud of them... was very worried when they did rehearsals. They got chocolates from me... told them it's for Valentines too.. haha... Here V-day, girls will give presents to guys, then one month later (White Day) guys will return the gifts. so weird... haha... I heard in Korea, there's Black day (1 month aft WHite Day),where girls who don't get anything will go eat 杂酱面... funny culture... I would have eaten lots of杂酱面if i am in Korea... haha
ReplyDeleteI didnt ruin the music presentation lor... I was correct hor.. it's the boys who kept stopping..
Mochi here is so good.. I love mochi too... can cook with soup too...
