Oita JET Charity Cycling

Oita JET Charity Cycling is an annual charity bike trip organized by the Oita AJET committee through beautiful Oita prefecture and beyond! The bike ride takes place every year in the three day weekend in late March. This year it will take place on Saturday March 19th-Monday March 21st! The fund raised will be donated to “Room to Read,” a charity which focuses on building schools and libraries in Southeastern Asia.

When I first heard of it, I was very excited and I was determined to join. However, as the days get closer to the event, I started to have doubts. Am I fit enough to cycle 3 days? I have never done it before. Even night cycling is tiring for me. I pondered and gave myslef excuses, "I don't have a bike."; "It's dangerous."; "It's expensive!"; "It's COLD!". I wanted to challenge myself, but at the same time I'm scared. It's really not going to be easy.

I spoke to my friends and asked if they are joining. One Singaporean girl said she did it last year, and she felt it's fun but dangerous. She don't intend to do it again. Since she is not doing, I was a little apprehensive to do it too. However, in the end, she said that if I'm really interested, she will do it with me.

I'm so glad she made this offer. I think I would be more comfortable if some one I know is willing to cycle with me, that even if I am slow, she will still not grumble and feel that I am a burden.

So... Final verdict is: YES, I am going for the 3 days bike trip.

Now, I have to source for all the things I need and also start training. (Jazzercise twice a week, hopefully I can force myself out for a jog or cycle in the cold weather...)

Wish me luck!
